Firstly we would like to wish you all a Happy New Year. We hope that you had a relaxing and enjoyable festive holiday and have returned with your batteries fully charged for 2009!
We are delighted to announce that ENB will be kicking off the New Year with our January meeting being held on Thursday 15th January, commencing with what we hope to be an inspiring talk on ‘Being an Entrepreneur in Spain in 2009′. The talk will be given by Jeaninne Horowitz (Associate Professor, Dept. Economics and Business, Pompeu Fabra University and Dept. of Biological Systems, Universitat de Vic) and Christopher Pommerening (Founder, Venturepreneurs’ Organisation, Ambassador EO Europe, Founder Barcelona Entrepreneurship City).
This will be followed by our social meeting in the hotel bar from 20.30h where we will be calling upon a selection of members to present themselves with a 2-minute ‘elevator pitch’. There will also be a presentation on the SEO Congress Barcelona being held from January 28th to 30th. Ouali Benmeziane from SEO Congress will be talking about the event and the special discount available for ENB members!

‘Being an Entrepreneur in Spain in 2009’
The talk will run from from 19.30h to 20.30h, with both speakers presenting for 20 minutes and to be followed by a Q&A session from our members.

Speaker’s Resumes:
Jeaninne Horowitz
Jeaninne holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of California, Berkeley, a Ph.D, in the area of biochemistry and genetics from the University of East Anglia and the John Innes Institute, England and a MBA from the IESA, Venezuela.
Since September 2003, she holds the position of associate professor in the Department of Economics and Business at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra and the Department of Biological Systems at the Universitat de Vic. Jeaninne has designed and taught courses in Business Economics, Entrepreneurship, Social Entrepreneurship, Retail Entrepreneurship, Business Ethics, Knowledge and Innovation Management, Bioenterprise, Advance Research in Biotechnology and Biotechnology Products and Processes.
Jeaninne has also been involved in the development of MBA programs at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra and the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. Her research revolves around the areas of methodology design for teaching entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship, development of models based on social entrepreneurship to promote innovation in the health system and models for knowledge and technology transfer from universities into business.
Previously, Jeaninne was tenured professor at the University Simon Bolivar in Venezuela, and Planning and Development Director of the Foundation of Research and Development at the same university. Other activities have included management consultant in the areas of regional innovation, strategic planning, project analysis, organizational design, process reengineering, and technology policy, among others. She has also been directly involved in two start-up ventures in Spain and has advised many more in the American region through a program financed by the Inter-American Development Bank. Previously, she worked as a professor and researcher in Venezuela, USA and Switzerland in the area of Biotechnology.
Christopher Pommerening
Christopher started his professional career in Spain in 1998 co-founding AutoScout24 Spain as CEO and member of the Board of Directors. AutoScout24 is part of the Scout24 Group, Europe’s leading operator of virtual market places. Christopher was appointed Managing Director of Scout24 Spain in 2001. While preparing the internationalisation (FriendScout24) of the Scout24 Group, he also created B24 Networks (Boot24.com), a Europe wide market place on the internet for the yachting sector.
In 2002 Christopher decided to join a friend and partner Philipp Schroeder at their already established venture catalyst company VCMORE GmbH and devote himself full time to Venture Capital and Entrepreneurship by offering consulting and investment services to start-ups through our contact network in Europe and the US of consultants, business angels and industry specialists. Alongside the latter, in 2002, Christopher co-founded EO Spain, the Spanish chapter of EO Entrepreneurs’ Organization, being one of the largest entrepreneur organisations in the world, and in the same year he co-founded Active Capital Partners.
In 2006 Christopher’s fellow EO Members elected him to be the Ambassador for EO Europe, in order to foster Entrepreneurship in Europe and grow the organisation in 10 different countries.
In 2007 he created the terminology for Venturepreneurship and Venturepreneurs and together with his partners they created the concept for the Venturepreneurs’ Organisation.
In 2008 Christopher initiated the Global Entrepreneurs Week in Spain and founded the Barcelona Entrepreneurship City Community, in order to promote Barcelona to become one of the leading Hubs for entrepreneurship in Europe.
Currently Christopher is a member of the Board of Directors of Vinus & Brindis , Polymita Technologies, BuyVIP and Non Executive Co-Founder and Advisor of Linqia.
